On Wednesday, November 2, 2005, Congressman Steve Rothman attended a reception hosted by Ohel Children's Home and Family Services, in appreciation of the New York, New Jersey, and Florida Congressional Delegations. Rothman praised the Brooklyn-based organization for its services to individuals and families, both children and adults, who are touched by personal challenges and their advocacy for the Jewish community. On Wednesday, November 16, 2005, Congressman Steve Rothman lent a helping hand to the "America Builds on the National Mall" project. The plan for the Habitat for Humanity sponsored project is to build 51 homes, one representing each state and the District of Columbia, for families made homeless by the hurricanes that devastated the Gulf Coast. Rothman helped assemble wall frames for the home representing New Jersey.
