Rothman Announces Over $1.9 Million Grant for Soundproofing at Sylvan School in Rutherford, NJ
(Washington, DC)— Today, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a Member of the Subcommittee on Transportation of the House Appropriations Committee, announced a federal grant totaling $1,997,721 for the soundproofing of Sylvan School in Rutherford, New Jersey. This project is vital to the students and teachers at Sylvan School, who are currently distracted by aircraft noise caused by planes flying in and out of nearby Teterboro Airport.
"I am very pleased to see that this federal money to Rutherford is being used to improve the educational atmosphere at the Sylvan School," said Rothman. "This soundproofing program has been a success at other schools and will certainly benefit students at Sylvan. They deserve the opportunity to learn without the constant interruption of roaring jet engines."
Sylvan received this money as part of more than $37 million dollars granted to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for school soundproofing by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Rothman is an active member of the Congressional Subcommittee that oversees funding for the DOT.
