Congressman Rothman Fighting for Union County
(Washington, DC)— Earlier this month, Union County Manager George Devanney (pictured) and Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) met in Washington, DC to discuss federal support for the Kapkowski Road Area Project, a major initiative designed to accommodate rapid economic and population growth in Union County and the central New Jersey region.
"As the sole New Jersey Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to lend a helping hand to the people of Union County," said Rothman. "The Kapowski project is an intelligent, long-term effort to improve roads and increase train and bus service in the area. It will improve the quality of life for residents, create jobs, and bring needed tax revenue to the area."
The meeting between Rothman and Devanney is a positive sign for Union County, which needs ongoing federal support to implement its six-year infrastructure plan. If Rothman is successful, Union County can continue moving forward on the Kapowski Road Area Project without an additional cost to local property taxpayers.
"New Jersey residents pay some of the highest taxes in the nation and I believe federal support for infrastructure redevelopment in Union County is a necessary and wise investment," added Rothman.
Rothman is a member of the Subcommittee that oversees transportation funding. In 2005, he worked with Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) to secure $765,000 in federal funding for safety improvements along Park Avenue.
