Congressman Rothman Swears In Student Legislators at the 3rd Annual Model Congress
(Wayne, NJ)— For the third year in a row, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) led the swearing-in ceremony for students participating in the Herald News' Model Congress. The annual Model Congress is an opportunity for students interested in public policy to practice drafting, debating, and passing legislation. Fourteen school districts from Bergen and Passaic Counties participated this year, including students from Fair Lawn and Hawthorne High Schools.
In his remarks to the students, Congressman Rothman reminded them that legislative policies can have a tremendous impact on the lives of people. He also urged them to remain open to new and different ideas during their Model Congress session.
You can read more about the ceremony in an article by Wayne Valley High School student Janet Namkung.
