Rep. Rothman Applauds Passage of the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act
Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) voted for the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act (H.R. 4861), a bill he co-sponsored, which passed by a vote of 361-37 on Tuesday, May 23. Congressman Rothman's statement follows:
"Under no circumstances should the U.S. provide one penny of financial assistance to the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority. Since their election three months ago, Hamas officials have continued to support the indiscriminate killing and maiming of innocent Israeli and American civilians, and have refused to disarm and recognize the State of Israel. The Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act rightly ends all direct aid to the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority until Hamas renounces terrorism, disarms, and acknowledges Israel's right to exist. As a co-sponsor of this important legislation, I was pleased to see it pass the House of Representatives today. Americans should never have to worry about their taxpayer dollars supporting a government that actively sponsors terrorism."
