September 11th Remembrance 2006
(Leonia, NJ)— On Sunday, September 10th, Governor Jon Corzine and Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) commemorated the Fifth Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center Memorial in Overpeck County Park. Several hundred residents joined them for the ceremony, including many of the families of Bergen County victims. Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney and Freeholder Chairwoman Bernadette McPherson presided over the solemn event.
The memorial paid tribute to the 147 individuals from Bergen County who lost their lives in the attacks, those who were injured, and the First Responders who answered the call to help. In his remarks, Congressman Rothman said, "September 11th continues to be a time for grieving and a time for resolve," adding that "as Americans, we will stand up to whoever wants to harm us, including those who seek to kill us because of our values: equal justice for all, tolerance, and freedom."
Rothman also joined Governor Corzine, Congressman Scott Garrett (R-NJ), the County Executive, the Board of Chosen Freeholders, Sheriff Leo McGuire, Bergen County Surrogate Michael Dressler, and N.J. State Representatives in reading aloud the names of all 147 Bergen County residents who died that day. They were:
