(Washington, DC)— On Wednesday, September 20, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) honored Anne Oros of Ridgewood, New Jersey as a 2006 Angel in Adoption™ for her outstanding contributions toward the welfare of children in the United States foster care system. Anne’s family was with her to accept the award, including her three-year-old son Alquan (pictured), whose adoption will be finalized next month.
“Anne is truly an inspiration and one of our nation’s heroes,” said Rothman. “Not only has she opened her home to seven foster children and raised three of her own, but she also patiently counsels and advises countless other foster parents and their children. I am grateful to Anne for her tireless dedication to providing children with good homes and helping to find them permanent ones. Every child has the right to a loving, safe, and happy home.”
Anne and her husband John have been foster parents with Children’s Aid and Family Services (CAFS) for the past seven years. They were also a foster family with Bethany Services, another foster agency in New Jersey, for many years prior to their work with CAFS. Anne has worked especially hard to care for and advocate on behalf of babies who are born to drug-addicted mothers.
The Angels in Adoption™ program was created by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about the tens of thousands of orphans and foster children in the United States and the millions of orphans around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes through adoption.
