(Washington, DC) – Today, Congressman Steve Rothman (D – NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, posted an interactive map on his Web site, www.rothman.house.gov, depicting how federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are being spent in New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District. The online map includes 115 icons representing over $624 million for specific federal and state projects, local government agencies and individuals.
“This map shows where the Recovery Act is making needed and timely investments in schools, police departments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects,” said Rothman. “I invite the people of Northern New Jersey to visit my Web site, www.rothman.house.gov, to see how this money is being distributed in their communities.”
The majority of the icons are grouped into the following categories:
• Local Education Agencies (school districts).
• Justice Assistance Grant Program recipients (police districts).
• Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant recipients.
• Housing authorities.
• Army Corps of Engineers projects.
• Department of Transportation road and rail projects.
• Water utility grant recipients.
• Homelessness and hunger prevention grant recipients.
• Workforce Investment Act grant recipients.
In addition to the projects represented on the map, New Jersey received additional funding for unemployment insurance, job training, tax credit assistance and other programs. For more information on how money from the Recovery Act is benefiting New Jersey, please visit www.nj.gov/recovery.
